Creasing of baby mat

How to Prevent Creases and Curling of Play Mats

Our Ludere TPU foam mats are the perfect baby accessory, especially as they grow more aware of their surroundings and want to explore. As your foam mats grow with your child, you might see some creases and curling on your play mats over time.

Play mats are great for kids, but they do require maintenance and care to prevent rips and creases. Here are some helpful tips on how to prevent creases and curling of your Ludere play mat, and how to restore it to its smooth design.

Rotate the play mat regularly

The most important thing you can do is rotate your playmat regularly. This will help keep the mat from sagging or curling up in any areas that are not being used by your child.

If you don't rotate your play mat regularly, the creases will become permanent. Rotating the play mat every week or so can help prevent this from happening. You can rotate it by flipping it over, or you can also rotate it by flipping it over and then rotating it 90 degrees.

Try not to fold the mat for long periods of time

It is important not to keep your play mat folded for long periods of time. This will keep the creases and wrinkles from forming, as well as protect it from UV rays that may cause damage to the material.

Folding the mat properly can also help prevent curling and warping of the fabric during storage or use. If you store a rolled-up playmat, use some type of bungee cord to keep everything together tightly so it doesn't get damaged by rubbing against each other while in transit between rooms on different levels in your house or apartment building (or office).

Clip the corners down with clothespins or painter's tape if it is still curling up

If you have a stubborn play mat that still keeps creasing and folding no matter what you’ve done, try using clothespins or painter's tape if there is still some curling up happening on the edges of the playmat:

  • Clip the corners down with clothespins or painter's tape if it is still curling up.
  • Use clothespins for longer-term use, but painter's tape for shorter-term use. If you're using a play mat for an extended period of time, consider using either one of these methods to keep your play area flat!

Do not use your play mats mats in extremely humid environments or areas that are exposed to direct sunlight or heat

If you live in a hot or humid climate, it's a good idea to store your play mats inside. If they're not going to be used often, they should be stored in a dark, cool room that has no direct sunlight exposure.

In the same vein, avoid exposing your TPU foam mat to heavy rain. While the mats are waterproof, this can help extend the longevity of your baby mat and help keep its design flat and crease-free.
